Drama, dark comedy, Rated: R, In theaters
This movie is a modern day version of, “Sex, Lies & Videotape” with a touch of “Seinfeld”. Every scene is shown from a public or private camera throughout the movie. I got a chance to screen this fantastic, edgy movie before it premiered in selected theaters.
In this film, we take a look at about 10 different characters using the viewpoints of various cameras located amongst the city to focus in on their somewhat normal and often times dramatic lives. The plot per se is an intense journey in high school, malls, work and at home via cameras. It was very nice to see how humor, sex and scandal can be shown from cell phones, work cameras, ATM cameras and oh so many more surveillance cameras. Did they see me eat the free pepper jack cheese at Wholefoods? Dang it! Ok I will return the bowl.
This movie, which is a nicely shot, dark comedy, gives you cameras to what you think equates to safety, which in turn should give you the truth. But with all of these variables, “Look” makes you take a look at human nature and all of the troubles and mischief that we encounter daily. Back to my pepper jack cheese, thank goodness the director did not make it cheesy by having a character wear a camera. I would like to put a camera on my cats at night. No seriously one of them moves the water bowl to the middle of the room and I want to know why?
“Look” begs to ask if the camera is all telling, what are we still not really seeing? Look and learn is the message that I got from this movie. Also, if the camera is always on, how come when you are harassed at work, and you know there are cameras present, why doesn’t anyone stop it? Now that’s a real shame when you’re the dweeb of any office and no one helps you. Or is it deserving? You tell me.
I really like and recommend this movie because it makes you think and realize that yes we know cameras are everywhere but if no one is watching them then what good are they? Most cameras will either help or hurt you but remember a camera is still just a camera. I will buy the DVD to re-watch this movie and to check out the extra footages or deleted scenes. Watch the movie, come on in, and take a “Look”.
