Walk, run, go see this movie. What do you do when you accidentally cut your brother in half and you want to redeem yourself? You sing songs with sexual innuendos and have tons of kids, that’s what you do. I found this movie cute and refreshing but a bit too long at times even at 96 minutes but well worth the money.
Mr. Cox used his talent, his father issues, drugs, sex, some “Saturday Night Live” actors and “The Office” chick to create a funky blues band that will rock your socks off. The cast of the movie is hilarious, especially John C. Reilly.
When Reilly first enters the scene, he is playing a 14-year old teenager. You’re laughing too, right? Raymond J. Barry plays Dewey Cox’s crazed father and continually screams throughout the movie, “The wrong son died!” The funny thing is every time you hear it, you have no choice but to laugh. Conner Rayburn you plays a young Dewey Cox also stars on the show “According to Jim”, and he is so adorable. Kristen Wiig plays Mrs. Cox and she has a ton of kids. No, I mean a ton of kids. She was like a bunny rabbit on some major vitamins. She came across as old Mother Hubbard but with a Mr. Cox.
The special effects used for the aging scenes are excellent and scary. The only downside was it dragged a bit at times and a few scenes could have been a montage. In my head, I am hearing the song from “South Park” and they are singing, “…were going to need a montage.”
There are tons of cameos from actors who have starred in “Superbad” and “Numb3rs” that just make you say, “Ok who is not in this movie?” I think David Krumholtz is in every other movie that is out this year, or that could just be me.
Have fun and enjoy the film.
