Young Einstein (1988): Chad sifts through the bull

Albert Einstein was a German-born physicist. He was really smart. Young Einstein grew up in Tasmania, had a squeaky voice and was obsessed with apples. He was really annoying. I know this movie was purposefully inaccurate from a historic point of view, and I am fine with that, but at least make up for it by being funny. That’s the deal I made with this movie: be funny and I won’t pick on the inaccuracies. I’m sorry, Young Einstein, but since you didn’t follow through with your end of the bargain, I will not follow through with mine.

(The Real) Albert Einstein
A world renowned physicist who was known for his works on General and Special Relativity, Brownian Motion, the Photoelectric Effect and the Unified Field Theory. Although a staunch pacifist, ironically, he helped to create the first Atomic Bomb in the World War II era.

An Australian Yokel who helped to put the bubbles in beer. He also created rock and roll and, in turn, an electric guitar. He likes to wear long johns that make him look like he took a dump in his pants and when he dances, exaggerates his movements to an irritating level.

(The Real) Marie Curie

A French physicist who was instrumental in advancing the field of radioactivity. She helped in discovering two radioactive elements, polonium and radium, and won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1903.

Looks like a prude but is a hooch at heart. Lets Young Einstein get some croissant love but ditches him later because ‘he is not a man of action.’ At times engages in cross-dressing, but in her defense, still looks good in garter stockings.

(The Real) Ernest Rutherford

‘The Father’ of Nuclear Physics, he won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1908. He is known for his orbital theory of the atom which he discovered through his famed gold foil experiment.

Is crazy, likes to bathe, and serves practically no purpose. Snooze on Ernest Rutherford.

(The Real) Wright Brothers
wright_brothers1.gif
American born inventing brothers, Orville and Wilbur, accredited with inventing the first successful airplane.

Brothers? Doubtful. Brothers from another mother? More likely seeing as one is black and the other is white. At least try to be somewhat accurate for God’s sake. Also, I remember the white brother having a high voice. Orville was such a dork – or was it Wilbur…I don’t know anymore.

This movie bored me. It frustrated me and the only way I could finish it was by watching it in 15 minute intervals. Despite this there may be a silver lining. Some of the background music was decent. Also, when I looked up some information on the movie, it apparently grossed over $100 million. I don’t know how this was possible, but judging by that number, just because I didn’t like Young Einstein, doesn’t mean you won’t as well. Just make sure you don’t take any history tests immediately following this film…because you’ll fail with flying colors.
